New School Year

We have hit “back to school” shopping season and all the families are gathering supplies. Teachers are preparing their classrooms and getting ready to pour into our young people and help them learn the wonders of our world. I remember going to school with our two youngest and writing check after check for all the things that were needed. It was a very expensive time of year. My husband and I decided to start a savings account and put money in each month to prepare for the burden of back to school. It is also a time to try on all your clothes and see what you have grown out of since school ended. Luckily, shorts can be worn for the first few months before you will be desperate for jeans or long pants.

In honor of this time of year, we have started a tradition of supporting our school teachers with items for their classrooms. We actually have quite a few teachers who are part of our congregation. Each teacher has submitted 3 items that they would like to have. You can help a teacher out by clicking here. All items will be delivered to the church for the teachers to pick up. We also do a backpack blessing for all the children, youth and teachers. You are invited to bring your school backpack to church on Sunday August 17th at 10 am in the Great Hall (gym). This is a great time to invite a friend to church for the first time. Ms. Linda will be ordering backpack tags that will be given away. You are invited to gather with us even if you are not a student or going back to school. We say a blessing over all the students and their school year.

Our Wednesday night class schedule will be packed full of activities for kids, youth and even adults. Now is the time to get plugged in by volunteering or simply joining one of the options for adults. We are very excited that our music ministries will resume. Now is the perfect time to join one of our three choirs- Chancel Choir, Bell Choir or “Kids and Youth Hand Chimes”. Our acolytes will be trained and will be serving at the 9:00 service every week.

I ask you to pray for our students, staff and teachers in our schools. So many of them are anxious about the new school year. They are such a gift to us all and I hope that they feel the love of the community around the hard work that they do.

Be a blessing to others out there!
