Usually, summer is a time when camps and VBS for children and youth are the biggest events, and other missions or events take a brief pause to catch their breath. However, if you check our Connect page, you might be surprised. We have a multitude of events and missions lined up for this summer!
This means our church is moving more dynamically than ever before. We are expanding our community reach into the Bixby area, building deeper relationships with various mission partners, and actively participating with them. We are able to embrace all of these ministries because of your love for God, your warm compassion for our neighbors, and your deep dedication to the church.
Here are 4 opportunities for you to join us in our summer of service:
1. Join us tonight for the Faith Bixby Family Fun Night!
A very special time awaits starting tonight (Friday)! Do you remember the "Block Party" we enjoy every fall at our Tulsa campus? You can think of this event as the "Bixby version" of that party. From 5PM to 8PM tonight in the Bixby parking lot, we will have fun activities for the whole family to enjoy, including inflatables, popcorn, and hot dogs.
Just as Jesus welcomed everyone exactly as they were, we want to let our neighbors know that there is a place here in Bixby where everyone is welcome, and we want to share that joy together. We are one church beyond our campus boundaries. This is a completely FREE event, so please feel free to invite your friends and neighbors, and come enjoy a great time!
2. Join the Rise Against Hunger Mission
We also have a mission prepared in partnership with the NE District. This beautifully illustrates "Connectionalism," a wonderful characteristic of our United Methodist Church. It is about coming together to accomplish a massive ministry that a single church would struggle to handle alone.
Participants (ages 5 and up) will gather at Boston Avenue UMC on Sunday, July 19 at 2PM to package meals for our hungry neighbors around the world. It will be a time to share fellowship, connect deeply with one another, and put Christ's love into action.
If you would like to participate, please email missions@faithtulsa.org! Registration is required! If you would like to ride the church bus together, please gather at Faith Tulsa by 1PM and click the "Save a seat" link on the Connect page to reserve your spot. (If you have a Faith shirt, please be sure to wear it!)
3. Teacher’s Wish List for Our Educators
Education is our future and our hope. We may not be able to upgrade the entire education system at once, but if we can provide educational materials or even a single sheet of paper for teachers to use directly in their classrooms, it can certainly make a meaningful difference.
If you are an active teacher for this upcoming semester, please let us know 3 essential items you need for your classes by next week! We will gather the lists you send to create a "Teacher’s Wish List" on Amazon and guide our congregation on how they can specifically support our educators. Please email your list to missions@faithtulsa.org!
4. Costa Rica Mission Trip Informational Meeting
Finally, our church is taking a mission team 2,000 miles south this fall to Costa Rica! From October 24 to 31, we will be working alongside Pastor Douglas Mejias and his congregation. We will be assisting with the installation of a new sanctuary floor, performing some building repairs, and hosting VBS for small churches in the area.
If you are interested in joining this mission trip or would like more detailed information, please attend the informational meeting on July 26 at 12PM in Room 500 at Faith Tulsa. We will discuss the specific details and costs of the mission work, as well as answer any questions you may have.
