Blood Work

I went in to the St Francis lab this morning after fasting last night for blood work. I usually do this every January along with my mammogram for my annual health check. I didn’t get to it this year because of the death of my father and all the unusual things that I needed to do with my mom. I already received my tests results but they seem to be in code! I have had to look up what all the codes mean to figure out what I was being tested for. Doing this blood work made me think of our friend Dave Lucie. As many of you know, Dave recently had a tumor removed and part of his recovery included infusions of blood. Each year we do the OBI Blood Drive twice-once in March and once in September. And every year I talk about each person who donates is saving a life. What is significant this year is that one of the people who needed and received blood was our friend-a long time beloved member of this church. I know that many of you are on medicine or have valid reasons that you cannot give blood, but I also know that many of us who could give don’t. So I want to challenge us this year on March 8th to go above the giving that we have previously given. The most donors that we have had is 22. Last year we dropped as low as 18. I am one of the people who signed up but then was rejected because my iron was too low. (This is something that I have struggled with my whole life. My parents used to make me eat liver to increase my iron! It was so gross. But I wasn’t allowed up from the table until it was all gone. So I drowned it in ketchup and suffered through until it was cold and even grosser than when it was served. But I digress!) So I invite you to tell your neighbors and friends that they too can donate blood on March 8th to help save a life. You can sign up here. I am going to go sign up right now and I hope that you will too.

I hope that you picked up your Lenten devotional. This year it was created by our staff and it is truly remarkable. It was a lot of work and we have sworn off of ever doing it again so you better enjoy the last one ever. (We have said this before. : )

Also we have had 341 people save a seat for Wednesday’s Adam Hamilton Book Tour so seats are filling up fast. Invite your friends, coworkers, neighbors and enemies and save a seat as soon as possible! You can do that here.

Much love,
