Lent begins

This week we will embark on the season of Lent. Since we have decided to use a book about the meaning of Crucifixion, I have ordered different crosses this year. For those of you who are new to the community, we have a long tradition of wearing crosses for this season and giving them away to anyone who comments on them. The new crosses look like they are made from nails. They have an adjustable string and a sturdier clasp. You are invited to pick one up on Ash Wednesday to wear everyday until Easter. This Lenten discipline is a tangible “take up your cross” and follow Jesus. I always enjoy hearing your stories about who you have given them to. We will also be offering a devotional booklet for your reflection during this season.

Also, different this year, we are having an Ash Wednesday (Feb. 18th) service at Noon at our Bixby location. This service is especially for those of you who don’t want to get out after dark. I will be preaching this year since Seungrok has done the preaching for the last four years. We will offer communion and the imposition of ashes to anyone who wants to participate. The ash that we make is from the pieces of black paper that you nailed to the cross last year with your sins offered up on Good Friday. Many of our adult Sunday school classes will be reading and studying the book that we are using to unpack the meaning of Jesus’ death. Feel free to join one for this limited time or join our Wednesday night reflection group at 6:30 pm. We might have a zoom group for you to join as well. Check with Pastor Seungrok for details.

The author of our book for this season, Rev. Adam Hamilton, will be joining us on Wednesday February 25th at 6:30 pm. If you would like to hear his presentation, please click here to save a seat. We are also very excited to welcome our Bishop Laura Merill for the ribbon cutting and the presentation by Hamilton. We have exciting plans for Holy Week as well but you will have to wait to hear about those!

I will see you Sunday,
