ROAD TRIP

This Sunday we begin our “Road Trip” along with our kid’s ministry as we begin VBS on Father’s Day week.  I have spent more time with my own father this week than any time in recent history.  He had a terrible fall while I was away on vacation and is in the hospital. I have been working from the hospital room.   I mentioned on Sunday that Jon and I took our three oldest grandkids to Disneyworld for a few days.  It was a wild adventure.  They are 10 year old Eva, 12 year old Gwendolyn and 14 year old Jackson.  It was lovely to get to know them in a way that I can’t do with a few hours on special holidays.

So this trip began with a road trip on Sunday. By the time I finished all my meetings and we packed up we were already a hour behind.  We raced through OKC and headed into Keller Texas to pick up the kids.  I had sent them a packing list with clear instructions about how and what to pack.  When we grabbed them, we discovered that their parents had not packed in the carry on bags that we requested.  Not a big deal but money that we hadn’t planned on spending.  So we went to the hotel that I had booked and our rooms that were supposed to be joined were actually across the hall from each other.  We put boys in one room and girls in the other and were fine except that the 12 year old refused to sleep with her sister.  Then the next day we headed to long term parking at the DFW airport.

We had plenty of time and things went well that morning.  We checked the two bigger bags and then the kids fought over who had to drag the single bag for the three of them.  I asked them to take turns and that went ok until one of them walked away from the bag and left it behind.  Luckily, Jon noticed that we were missing that bag and he grabbed it.  Our plane then got delayed due to a storm in Orlando.  Then we changed gates.  Then we changed gates again.  Then our plane was cancelled and Jon stood in the rebooking line.  Our new flight was going to be four hours later.  So we grabbed the bags to go get some dinner and discovered that my bag was missing.  I had been pulling the bag that belonged to the kids and left mine behind. Jon stayed with the kids and  I raced back to the three previous gates looking for the bag and asking if anyone had seen it.  No one had.  Then began the process of trying to reclaim a bag that had been left unattended at the airport.  Needless to say, it involved the police, lost and found and unclaimed/lost luggage.  We ended up leaving without it.

I don’t have room to tell you the rest of the story but as we begin this series on “Road Trips” we will look at journeys in the Bible that also have twists and unexpected turns.  The kids will be singing at the eleven o’clock service on the twenty second.  I hope you will make time to join us in person and online.  You might be getting “the rest of the story.”

Lastly, we are looking for someone who does woodworking to help make a cross for the new Bixby location.  If you have this skill and are willing to share your talents, please reach out to myself or Pastor Seungrok.

Love to you all,
