Why did Jesus have to die?
Our theme for Lent this year is Why Did Jesus Have to Die?, which is based on the newest book of the same name from Rev. Adam Hamilton. Below is a theme summary from the book:
“Despite the centrality of Christ’s crucifixion to Christian faith, the New Testament is surprisingly vague on precisely how Jesus’ death saves- or why, exactly, he had to die. The New Testament writers use a host of metaphors- ransom, sacrifice, reconciliation, victory- but never explain exactly how it works or why it had to happen this way. What if we have been asking the wrong question? What if the cross isn’t a transaction to be explained, but a living Word from God meant to transform who we are and how we live?”
