Growing Leaders
Coming up on September 14th is our annual Leadership Training Day. This day is the responsibility of the Nominations team and helps them identify folks who feel God has called them to lead. We have the opportunity to discuss the structure and decision making process that Faith uses. This is a wonderful way to get to know each other and to talk about all the ways that folks can lead. We use this pool of people and names to invite folks into roles where their gifts can be used. You may be wondering what kind of people that we may be looking for. Let me share with you some of the things that we are looking for in leaders.
Our membership vows outline the expectations of those who gather as the body of Christ. We vow to support Faith UMC with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. We hope and expect folks to have an active prayer life that deepens their faith and grounds them in their relationship with the Holy One. We expect them to be present in worship and church life. They bring their gifts that are given by God to be used and their financial gifts that are invested in the ministry. This isn’t about how much you give but the discipline and growth as you express your faith in God and commit an investment in the work that we are called to do together. As a congregation that says every week “Inviting people to Christ centered service” we offer you the opportunity to serve both inside the church and in the community. And lastly, we expect your life and words to be a witness to those you encounter about your faith and your love for Jesus. Church isn’t a place you attend. It is a body of believers doing life together as we recognize our messiness, yet, also believe that we can do Holy things.
We do not need people who are perfect to lead. Instead, we need people who are committed and willing despite their imperfections. People who have accepted the love and grace that calls them “the beautiful not yet.” I have found that often it takes about three years for a person to realize that they have the potential and confidence to lead. Being called can be scary, but it is also full of wonderful delight in the possible. Also, just because you attend the leadership training, it does mean that you have committed. It can simply mean that you are curious about learning more. There are many, many ways to get involved at Faith.
So please pray about this opportunity. Click here for more information or to register if you want to join us on Sept. 14th at noon.
See you Sunday!
