Unafraid | Fear of failure

Text: Exodus 3:104:13; Joshua 1:1,5,9; 2 Timothy 1:7
Title: Fear of Failure

So, really, what would you do if you knew you could not fail? This week, we'll look at God's response when the people failed, over and over again. Not only that, but the one chosen to lead them, Moses, was so afraid of failure, he asked God to choose someone else. Human beings are fickle -- our passion and excitement fall away before our task is completed. And, still...God invites us to participate in His great adventure. Know this, there isn't any failure big enough to separate you from God's good and perfect will for your life.

Unafraid | Fear of the Other

Text: Psalm 27:1,14Matthew 5:43-441 John 4:18a-20
Title: Fear of the Other
Have you experienced judgment because you represented a "category" someone else didn't like? You were a Democrat and they just didn't like Democrats, period. You were a young person and they thought young people were lazy. We categorize people all the time -- and they categorize us. It is how objectification begins...seeing someone as an object instead of a person. Jesus will always challenge us on this front. This week, let's address our fear of the other. We can live unafraid.

Unafraid | An Age of High Anxiety

Text: Psalm 56:3-4Isaiah 41:10
Title: An Age of High Anxiety

We begin a new sermon series this week confronting the reality of fear. This week, the emphasis is on a better understanding of what fear is and how it works. We'll discover the resources of our faith in the face of fear. Our Sunday School classes are traveling this journey with us. If you are not currently a part of a faith group, this would be a great time to join one on Sunday mornings. Pastor Charla will gladly give you a study book. Just reply to this email to request one.

Luke 1:30-33
Title: I Believe in the Sun

Advent begins. We proclaim the audacity of hope, even when it seems crazy. I believe in the sun, even when it's not shining. We light one candle this week -- proclaiming that the light of Christ is coming in to the world. Join us for the season of hope lived together with those who remind us that we hope not in vain. This week, we hear the witness of Luke...a story told from Mary's point of view. Each week, we'll hear the story from a different gospel and light one more candle. I believe...

Real Life, Real Faith | Calgon, Take Me Away, 11/25/18

Text: Psalm 37:7-9
Title: Leftovers and Family Fights

We are seeking the holy in our ordinary, every day, real lives. This week, we find nourishment in the mundane and repetitive. Most of our spiritual nourishment comes from the routine practices: daily prayer, study of scripture, weekly worship. Rarely do they produce "mountain top" experiences for us, but they do provide that ongoing source and strength for the hardest work of our faith. Peacemaking, especially in our homes, is hard work. It requires us to give grace, the kind of grace we find in our routine practices. So, join us for leftovers and family fights.

Real Life, Real Faith | It's Morning... Again

Text: Psalm 118:23-25
Title: It's Morning...Again

We begin a new sermon series this Sunday, Real Life, Real Faith...a search for the holy in the ordinary. If we can’t find the holy in our everyday lives, it is unlikely we will find it anywhere else. I’m hopeful that this series will provide a “liturgy for life” -- taking our routine experiences and helping us ritualize them so they can lead us to God. Our focus on Sunday will be morning routines and learning to wake up with God.
