Art Appreciation in Three Easy Lessons
—Patsy Hinkel February 12, 19, 26
Have you ever heard or said, “I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like and do not like?” Often this reaction happens because the viewer does not understand at first glance what an artist is communicating. But something else may be happening, something very personal. It is a reaction based on your own life experience. Come join our class to view famous and not so famous paintings and sculptures from the great museums around the world while learning how each person uniquely appreciates a work of art. You will first learn how to not react to a work until you have carefully examined the details of a work without forming an opinion to discover what the artist wanted to communicate. Only then will you be asked to examine your reaction to the art. Most will be surprised to learn about their personal reaction to a work and how important it is in art appreciation. This class will not help you like all art, but it does carry a guarantee that each participant can appreciation art and learn a visual language.
